"Blazonry- Traditional - Azure bordered with 44 stars argent. A shield tierced en fesse gules, of the second and first, bordered or and charged with a beehive proper. Modern - A blue field, bordered with 44 white stars. A shield of red, white & blue horizontal stripes with gold border on which is a beehive in natural colors. Symbolism- The blue continues the field from the present flag, adding a border of stars for the 44 states of the Union when Utah joined. The shield, simplified from the state seal, has a gold border and three horizontal stripes-red, white & blue: The shield represents the state's political authority. The colors represent the Union of which we are a proud member. The three stripes represent Utah's historical governments-provisional, territorial & state. The shield also bears a beehive, representing the founding, our industry and our community."
