This flag design preserves the historical symbol of Utah's industrious people, by maintaining a more modern depiction of the beehive element at its core. To me this is a critical aspect, as Utah continues, and even builds upon, its reputation as a leader in economic development and industry among the other states. The beehive design is then surrounded by different elements that convey the majestic natural variety that makes Utah such a uniquely fascinating place: snow-covered mountain ranges juxtaposed with red rock arches and narrows, all under the beautiful blue skies of our many open spaces and wonders. The "U" in the center is an unmistakable and immediate identifier of the state of Utah, as the ONLY state in the union starting with this letter, and could also be used to explore a future "Utah United" theme. The amber color in the bottom half represents the many fields dotting our beautiful state, the honey color of the beehive, as well as the broad open spaces and freedoms we enjoy here. Last, the white star reminds us of our longstanding pride and commitment as an essential member of the 50 United States of America.
