Description My design incorporates the natural beauty of Utah along with several symbols representing our proud history of carving a strong community out of a barren desert. The red at the bottom of the design (E41837) represents the red rocks of our beautiful national parks in the southern half of our state and the blood that was spilled in founding Utah. The blue at the top of the flag (002868) represents the Great Salt Lake, one of Utah's most famous features and the perseverance of the pioneers who first settled here. The white stripe in the center of the flag represents Utah's snow and the path that pioneers took to get here. All three colors together represent the two-toned nature of the Great Salt Lake, with the white rocks of the Union Pacific Rail Causeway dividing them. The central charge of the design is a blue hexagon with a double thick gold (FFC324) border around it. The hexagon represents the industrious bees which early Utahans took inspiration from, who build hexagonal honeycomb just as proudly as Utahans build this state. Inside the hexagon is a gold beehive, also representing the industrious pioneers and Utah's official nickname, "The Beehive State". Under the entrance to the beehive is a five-pointed white star, representing Utah's five indigenous tribes, the Ute, Paiute, Goshute, Shoshone, and Navajo, and the five national parks, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef. The two ends of the aforementioned white stripe meet the beehive in the middle, also representing Utah's importance as the central point of the Transcontinental Railroad. I believe this design should be selected due to its representation of Utah's rich history of sacrifice and success against the odds.
