Description |
The flag as a whole shows a representation of the famous ‘Spiral Jetty' sculpture by Robert Smithson covered in a layer of salt, making it appear white, emerging from the maroon colored water of the Great Salt Lake. The maroon background represents the full Great Salt Lake, natural recourses, industry and unique wildlife of the state (such as the brine shrimp which causes the color of the water to appear maroon in the first place). The white color of the spiral represents the dry Great Salt Lake, the mountain snow & the origin of the name Utah (which comes from the name of the Ute tribe meaning ‘people of the mountains), peace & the desire for it and the universal spiritual symbology of spirals that come from all cultural groups that live in Utah. |
