This design is simplistic yet elegant. Overall, the image represents a combination of four Utah features, namely the Skies, the Mountains, the Red Rock, and the Great Salt Lake. The Skies are represented by the deep blue at the top, representing the clear skies that are so amazing for astrophotography, skies that have led to Utah being recognized as having the highest concentration of International Dark-Sky Association-certified areas in the world. We are proud of our skies and the beauty they let us observe in the heavens above. The Mountains are represented by the White band just below the blue Sky region, and represent the fact that Utah has some of the greatest facilities for snow sports on the planet. People come from all over the world just to experience our spectacular powder, which leaves all of them saying that Utah truly has the "Greatest Snow on Earth". Note the peaks of the mountains on the sides of the flag, caused by the overlay of the Sky region, also implying that the viewer of the flag is in a valley looking up, representing the majesty and wonder felt by most residents upon seeing the Mountains in all their grandeur. The Mountains of Utah represent the heights we can reach and the magnitude of challenges we have overcome. The Red Rock regions of Utah are represented by the orange band below the white Mountains band. The orange connotes warmth and strength and represents the sandstone that created many of the incredible features on display in Southern Utah. Note that the curvature of the blue Great Salt Lake region below creates an arch out of the orange Red Rock band. This shape reminds us of the Great Arches that have both accepted and withstood the tests of time, arches that have experienced great losses that ultimately revealed their true strengths. The Red Rocks of Utah remind us that while the world changes and flows around us, we hold at our core the values that made us Utah. The final region of the flag is the blue Great Salt Lake region at the bottom of the flag. The blue represents the water that sustains this valley and gives our Capital City its name. The Great Salt Lake has been a symbol of refuge for so many people, representing the end of long journeys and persecution, and the beginning of new lives and prosperity. The Great Salt Lake represents the hope of generations past and present, and the promise of a prosperous future.
