Description Sketch of a view of the main range of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as seen from the Huerfano River Valley, drawn by Richard H. Kern during the Gunnison expedition on 10 August 1853. The view is west-northwest from vicinity of Farisita up the Huerfano Valley toward Crestone Peak. The dark butte in the foreground is today known as Gardner Butte, while the "Wet Mountains" mentioned in the written title are not actually in this scene.
