Page 1) One-page handwritten draft of letter, dated February 27, 1957, from Dr. Aziz Atiya to Dr. A. Ray Olpin, President, University of Utah. The generously edited draft is on Indiana Union and Campus Club (Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana) stationery. In the letter, Dr. Atiya thanks Olpin for this letter of February 21, 1957, and expresses his sympathy for Dr. Olpin's quest for appropriations from the Utah legislature. Dr. Atiya is anticipating a "short summer session at Utah" and would like to discuss the particulars at a meeting with Dr. Olpin when he visits New York in May. Dr. Atiya encloses a copy of the program from his Patten lectures [at Indiana University] for Dr. Olpin's perusal. Atiya refers to an engagement at North Carolina in April 1957, and that he has declined others due to a lack of time. President Olpin mentions that he has been busy with appropriation negotiations with the Utah legislature, but has been thinking about Dr. Atiya's scheduled visit to Utah to teach some courses for summer school, which has been arranged by Dean H. W. Bentley of the summer school and Dr. Leland H. Creer, head of the University of Utah History Department. When a copy of the summer school program becomes available, Dr. Olpin with send or bring with him to New York in May 1957, at which time he will meet with Dr. Atiya to work out the details of Atiya's western trip.
