La Chinga: The Narratives of Pay Discrimination and Disempowerment of Latinx Immigrant Workers along the Wasatch Front

This research is a collection of narratives from Latinx immigrant workers living along the Wasatch Front. The participants' work experiences and backgrounds are unique and varied. In order to understand their lived experiences and how to best serve this community the data was gathered using the qualitative one-to-one interview method. Along with the experiences of Latinx immigrant workers in their workplaces, this research also gathered information on how they understand their labor and employment rights and their ability to exercise those rights. The second research question focuses on how the participants wanted information regarding their employment and labor rights conveyed to them. From the data analysis, the following themes emerged: lack of pay and discriminate pay gap, workers' distrust of system, abuse of power, forms of disempowerment, and empowerment. This work will also make recommendations for future study and how we can use the findings in this study to create changes in labor and employment policy and practices in the workplace.
