Description |
The red crescent shape in the center represents both the letter U and the red rock that southern Utah is famous for. It encases a snowy mountain top, representing the colder climates of northern Utah, with a yellow sun rising above the horizon. The sun itself representing life, light, and energy. I wanted the yellow to also bring to mind the beehive imagery our state is known for, and seen in previous flags. The cross pattern in the background is in reference to the moniker, "Crossroads of the West". The color scheme itself is meant to evoke the varied landscapes and climates of the state. A dark blue for the great salt lake, the red and blueish-white for the red rock and snow capped mountains respectively. Not only that, but it also pays slight homage to the red, white, and blue of the American flag, representing bravery, purity, and justice. |
