Description |
"EAGLE GATE FLAG - VERSION 2 Much of the same symbolism as the above submission: This flag is immediately recognizable from any distance. The Eagle-and-Beehive motif, already sitting atop the Eagle Gate at the base of the State Capitol, is a visually arresting and iconically Utahn symbol for both the state's pioneer history and its contemporary place in the American Union (represented by the Deseret beehive and American bald eagle, respectively). However: The specific blue used, and the choice of a gold, white, and blue color scheme, aligns with the other 'Four Corners' flags, better demonstrating Utah's position in the region. Furthermore, the gold stripe represents the foundation of state pride that unites all Utahns, the unification of America by rail with the driving of the Golden Spike at Promontory Summit in May 1869, and the LDS demographic and history of the state. The white bar represents the pristine snow of Utah's ski country, and the blue both honors the legacy of the Utah state flag and provides a familiar visual language to identify the flag alongside many of America's other most beautiful state flags (South Carolina, Indiana, Colorado, etc.). Much love and passion went into my tiny contribution to this project, and it's sincerely been both an honor and a thrill just to compete. I'm extremely eager to see what the selection committee ultimately chooses, and can't wait to celebrate the new flag along with all of the rest of Utah and the nation. :)" |
