Description The proposed "Canyons" flag design represents the unique colors and beauty of Utah's landscape and all its people. In every part of the state, our canyons represent the things we love about Utah. They are places we spend time with family and friends. They are places where we recreate, hike or ski. They are places where we explore, marvel at nature, seek greater heights and find our best selves. This design portrays a comprehensive vista of the entire state, but is also a view found in many places throughout the state (as shown in the next attachment). Two identical reddish-orange triangles at the bottom of the flag represent the famed red rock canyon walls found in southern Utah. A pair of golden diagonal stripes, or canyon walls, represent the grassy foothills and golden harvest of farms throughout the state. A next canyon or pair of diagonal green stripes represent the many forests of aspen, maple, and evergreen trees in Utah's mountains. The canyon vista culminates at the top with a pair of snowy mountain peaks that nod to our famous Greatest Snow on Earth. The mountain peaks also feature a tilted geographic shape of the state. A blue bar at the bottom represents the many lakes and reservoirs that sustain life in Utah with snowmelt from the canyons. The dark blue color at the top represents the dark skies in many places of the state. This design represents the stunning colors of Utah's landscape through all seasons. Its symbolism is inclusive of all Utahns, including those that lived in this place hundreds and thousands of years ago and those who will call Utah home in the future.
