Description |
I have to give credit to the 125th anniversary flag designer as inspiration and basis for this design. I have though made some minor alterations to their design. THE BEEHIVE STATE - the Beehive takes center stage, boldly declaring who Utah is to the world (5 layers of the Beehive represent the 5 national parks) THE BEE - the Bee represents several things; 1. The people of the state, each unique, and each with a different purpose. 2. It is returning to the hive that represent home. 3. The 8 visible parts (head, thorax, abdomen, 4 wings, stinger) represent the 8 National Monuments and the 2 antenna represent the 2 National Recreation Areas STATEHOOD - the white star represents Utah joining the Union in 1896 CROSSROADS OF THE WEST - the criss-cross design intersects in the center, literally symbolizing Utah as the "Crossroads of the West" and as the joining point of the Transcontinental Railroad at Promontory Point 5 NATIVE TRIBES - the flag's five quadrants (north, south, east, west, center) honor the five Native Tribes of Utah: the Ute, Paiute, Navajo, Shoshone, and Goshute peoples. UTAH RED - represents the famous Red Rocks of Southern Utah MOUNTAIN WHITE - known for the "greatest snow on earth," white represent the iconic snow capped Rocky Mountains of Utah LIBERTY BLUE - a carry over from the current flag, the blue represents the tradition of Utah and the Great Salt Lake |
