Description |
The flag design I include with this submission comprises two main fields, blue above and copper below, representing the sky and the Utah landscape, respectively. These are separated by a white bar, showing the mountains as the point where land meets sky. In the center is a beehive, which I felt was important to include, given its historic and current importance as a state symbol. Below the beehive are three sego lilies. I have often admired these flowers while in the field, and am glad that a plant so beautiful and so important to both various peoples in history and prehistory was chosen as another state symbol. In my design, the sego lilies represent various the gifts that we can be grateful for as Utahns, including the nature around us and the society we live in. Above the beehive, there are three stars, representing the aspirations that we have, as individuals and as a community. Together, these two sets of three indicate gratitude for what we have and our hope to pursue even greater achievements. I chose the number three, both to create simplicity of design, but also to show plurality. This is because Utah society contains many opinions and perspectives, but we can be unified as we pursue progress together. |
