Title |
Medicaid expansion's ambiguous effects on abortion rates from 2009-2019 |
Date |
2023 |
Description |
This paper analyzes the effects of the Affordable Care Act, specifically Medicaid expansion, on abortion rates from 2009-2019. I start off the analysis with a Difference-in- Difference model, move on to a Two-Way Fixed Effects model, and then alter the model to include event time, where the event year is the year that the state expanded Medicaid. The Difference-in-Difference models showed a decrease in abortion rates for states that expanded Medicaid, and the Two-Way Fixed Effects models showed an increase in abortion rates for states that expanded Medicaid. Almost none of these results are statistically significant, and therefore the effect of Medicaid expansion on abortion rates is inconclusive because of the ambiguity of the effects of Medicaid expansion on difference age groups of women. |
