The landscape analysis of facilitators and barriers to a closed-loop, direct to provider critical lab reporting workflow is a quality improvement project that will benefit the health system studied. This project has the potential to increase regulatory compliance, decrease staffing needs, and improve documentation quality and patient safety. This clinical analysis will give context regarding the importance of technology harmonization, user inputs, and consistent communications prior to implementing electronic, closed-loop, direct to provider critical lab reporting. The goal of this project is to identify facilitators and barriers to implementation and make recommendations so the proposed solution can be integrated at the institution studied and readily accepted by clinical staff. The objectives of this project are threefold: 1) to describe current and proposed workflow, particularly focusing on the nursing role, 2) to reveal user-perspective about current barriers and facilitators and expected improvements with proposed solutions and 3) to conduct a landscape analysis to understand factors that may impact implementation, such as required strengths, resources, and needs of the institution. |
