Recent national headline have drawn attention to the use of "trigger warnings" on college campuses. These warnings, initially used to help survivors of traumatic events, have been described as a way to infantilize college students and a precursor to censorship. This project will examine the circumstances which might lead to the use of trigger warnings in higher education, as well as the risks and benefits of doing so. This project will have two components: one, a creative component designed in the form of a play, and two, an analytical component that further examines the choices I made as a playwright and the choices of the characters in the arc of the narrative. In creating this project, I hope to explore the ideas of what trigger warnings are and what they stand for, and use a dialectical narrative structure to encourage critical thinking from audiences. |
