Description |
"This redesign seeks to modernize the symbolism found in the current state flag to be more distinctive and memorable. The star and field of indigo blue allude to the US flag's canton, which signifies our statehood and our commitment to the Union. The blue therefore represents justice and integrity, relating to the meaning of the US's blue. The upright gold pentagon symbolizes a beehive, representing industry. The two white triangles together with the beehive conveys the colors of a sego lily, which represents peace. The overall triangle shape suggests a mountain, Utah's signature geography. The two white bars signify the state bird, the sea gull, alluding to when in 1848, sea gulls saved the Utah settlers by devouring the insects that were destroying their crops. The gulls reinforce the idea of peace and protection." |
