Description |
Symbolism- The sky and earth are intersected by the main symbol of the flag, a mountain range set against the sun. The three mountain peaks symbolize the 3 main petals of the Sego Lilly. The bottom blue third of the circle represents the Great Salt Lake at the foot of the mountains. The bottom blue third of the circle is also meant to symbolize a subtle "U" for Utah. The star represents Utah's statehood. Its placement within the lake suggests the state capital of Salt Lake City. The upper left quadrant of the star represents Utah place in the 4 corners and suggests a kinship with Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico. Colors - Old Glory Blue represents the sky and serves to link this flag to the United States Flag. Rusty Orange represents the desert landscape found in the southern part of the state. This color also adds a uniqueness to the flag while hinting at the traditional use of red. Yellow represents the sun and is also a homage to the yellow in the current Utah flag as well as the yellow in the new Salt Lake City flag. White represents the mountains as well as the Sego lily. The bold and simple design of this flag is meant to coexist with the other flags of the 4 corners states. When seen together these flags are among the most pleasing and distinct flags of the United States. |
