Title |
Creating mice with targeted disruptions in protooncogenes and homeobox genes, NIH Director's Lecture given May 21, 1992 |
Date |
1992 |
Description |
This is an audio transcript of a 1 hour, 2 minutes and 12 seconds lecture given at the National Institutes of Health by Mario Capecchi on 1992/05/21. Beginning with a short summary of the mechanics of gene transfer and the ability to create germline chimera with mutations that become hereditary within a line of mice, Capecchi discusses the investigation of two lines of basic developmental genes, protooncogenes and homoebox genes. Creation of lines of knockout mice allows the identification of the function of the actual gene as well as the various expression patterns that result. Other key concepts included in this lecture are monozygote and homozygote developmental differences. |
