Description |
Presenting Symptom: Retinal drusen. Pathology: Proliferative changes in the basement membrane. Clinical: These bodies present as discrete yellow spots simulating true exudate. They are proliferative changes in the basement membrane of the pigment epithelium - Bruch's membrane - and connote degenerative changes unassociated with vascular disease. They are situated deeper than exudate and are frequently associated with pigment changes but otherwise cannot be easily distinguished by ophthalmoscopy from exudate. Disease/ Diagnosis: Macular degeneration |
