Led by anesthesiologist Steve Bott, M.D., a group calling themselves the University Health Care Louisiana Medical Relief Team donated time and services to aid residents of New Orleans in 2005 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The group embedded themselves at a makeshift hospital in a K-Mart store that became known as "Our Lady of the Blue Light." There Dr Bott and colleagues tended to the physical and emotional wounds of those impacted by the storm. |
