Alternative Title |
Uncompahgre Mountains, composite sketch and photograph |
Description |
Juxtaposition of the second photograph with the second sketch of the San Juan Mountains (that unaccountably omits Uncompahgre Peak) from south of the Grand (Gunnison) River, drawn during the Gunnison expedition and dated incorrectly September 14. Shlaer explains that a scouting party from the expedition passed by the viewpoint on the 13th, but when the entire expedition ascended to Cerro Summit the next day they took a different route along which none of the scene depicted would have been visible. The artist may have been James Snyder, working under the tutelage of Richard H. Kern. |
