Description On a white field, four triangles point toward the center, two on top and two on bottom. The bottom triangles are red to signify the Great Basin Desert, which covers most of the state, and its awe-inspiring red rock formations. The top triangles are blue to signify the state's bodies of water, especially the Great Salt Lake. White signifies both the state's famous salt flats and "the greatest snow on earth." Overall, the design conjures an image of a mountainous landscape, as well as a subtle hexagonal pattern like one would find in a beehive, a longstanding state symbol. In the center, a white star outlined in blue signifies Utah's status as an American state.
