Description |
The Five Lilies Flag brings in the striped motif from the American flag, replacing the colors to better suit and distinguish Utah. The primary symbol, the sego lily, is Utah's state flower, stacked along the edge like Utah's population centers are stacked along the I-15 corridor. The Sego Lily is an important flower in Utah's history and is a cultural symbol for the state's perseverance and natural abundance. They represent Utah's 5 keystone tribes, celebrating and recognizing the people who lived in the region for thousands of years. They also represent Utah's 5 regions: Central Utah, Southeastern Utah, Southern Utah, the Unitas, and the Wasatch Front. The 9 stripes represent Utah's natural beauty and unique geology. The 5 gold stripes stand-in for Utah's 5 national parks: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Zion. The 4 blue stripes are for the 4 major lakes in the state: Bear Lake, Great Salt Lake, Lake Sevier, and Utah Lake. The stripes also allude to a beehive, another important symbol for Utah. |
