Description |
The purpose of this research was to ascertain how an awareness of dyslexia affects secondary school teachers. The setting was a fairly typical, suburban, middle-class, public middle school. Five 6th grade teachers participated in the research. Data from questionnaires, interviews, and a research journal was collected over a three month period and the data was analyzed according to the constant comparative method. The research showed that an awareness of dyslexia helps secondary school teachers feel empowered and propels them to look for and help struggling students. It also showed that it motivates teachers to be more compassionate and supportive of dyslexic students and inspires teachers to examine and modify their teaching and teaching strategies. |
