The three regions of the flag represent the three regions of Utah. The blue in the upper left represents the basin and range region and the great salt lake the prominent feature of the region. The red in the lower right represents the Colorado plateau and the red color of the mountains found there. The middle white stripe represents the smallest region of the Rocky mountains and the snow cap peaks found there. The general layout of the flag of a single strip to the upper right draws people's attention upward towards the mountains of Utah and the future of Utah. |
