Description The white represents the Salt Flats. White also represents the snow that is an important part of Utah - snow sports and water for agriculture and sustaining life. White also conveys freshness and simplicity. The purple represents the amazing mountains of Utah. Think "purple mountain's majesty." Look closely at the mountains and you will see the northern and eastern edges of the shape of the state of Utah. The southern and western edges are beneath the white. This has been done by rotating the shape of the state counterclockwise 45 degrees. Purple is often associated with royalty, spirituality, or even whimsy and fun. Black represents the incredible, star-filled night skies above Utah. Utah has the highest number of International Dark Sky Association certified areas - perfect for star gazing. We look to the night sky and dream. The white star is closely tied to the black. The white star represents the stars in the sky above Utah. It represents Utah's ties to outerspace through the aerospace industry and the Space Dynamics Lab. The star may also represent the future. It may also represent God. Think "one nation under God." The green represents the farms and ranches of Utah. Agriculture is a part of the past, present, and future of Utah. Note the honeycomb shape of the green. This shape is an homage to the beehive - the Utah state symbol since 1848 that represents industry and perseverance. The red-orange represents the red rock sandstone that dots the state, especially southern Utah. The Delicate Arch shape represents the many natural beauties that are found in the state including our National and State Parks and Monuments.
