Plate 288

Update Item Information
Title Plate 288
Alternative Title Uncompahgre Mountains Sep. 14th [i.e. 13th], sketch
Description Second sketch of the San Juan Mountains, one that unaccountably omits Uncompahgre Peak, from south of the Grand (Gunnison) River, perhaps drawn by Richard H. Kern during the Gunnison expedition on 13 September 1853. Shlaer explains that this version was probably made on the 13th, so the notation on the sketch of September 14 is incorrect. The artist may have been James A. Snyder, working under the tutelage of Richard H. Kern.
