Dr Betz was born in LaCrosse, Wisconsin in 1947. Dr Betz received his B.S. (1969), M.D. and Ph.D. (1975) from the University of Wisconsin. Dr Betz completed his Internship in pediatrics (1975-1976) and was a Resident (1976-1977) and Post-Doctoral Fellow in neurology and pediatrics (1977-1979) at the University of California, SAan Francisco. Dr Betz was Assistant Professor in Pediatrics and Neurology (1979-1983); Associate Professor (1983-1987; and Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology (1987-1999) at the University of Michigan. Dr Betz was named Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, Dean of the School of Medicine and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Utah Health System at the University in 1999. In January of 2004, Dr Betz was named Interim President of the University of Utah. Dr Betz was Senior Vice President for the Health Sciences from 1999-2010. Dr Betz retired from the University in 2011. Dr Betz was elected to the Board of Directors of the Association of American Medical Colleges in 2012. |
