RED: The red rocks of southern Utah. It's at the bottom for that reason. WHITE: The snow capped peaks of Utah GREEN: The green of our mountains in spring. It is in the middle, like our state. It also represents the pioneers turning a desert green. BLUE: The blue skies of Utah. Also the wide open blue skies of Utah's future YELLOW: The rising sun for the future The bottom triangle represents the mountains of Utah. All the lines are designed to imply "motion" drawing attention to the center of the flag. The "motion" is both our past and future - The past for all of the Native Americans, pioneers, immigrants, and others who have been drawn to Utah for what it has to offer, and the future as together we go forward towards the rising sun. The rising sun is our bright future. Importantly, the general outline of the shapes in the middle form a U - for the Utes who were here when the pioneers arrived, and for the name Utah, which is obvious. The sun is rising over Utah - hence the yellow oval over the U shape in the middle.
