Description |
It's a very simple design of a golden honeycomb on a deep blue fields. The honeycomb represents industry, community and solidarity. It's rich gold hue represents prosperity, fertility and purity, while the blue field represents openness and possibility. A honeycomb is a pretty easy thing to construct. It's just 6 hexagons placed in a ring. One thing I love about that design is the ephemeral nature of the central 7th hexagon. Is it there on it's own or does it only exist because the whole has become more than the some of it's parts. And there is a parallel with the book of Genesis, where in God weaves the fabric of creation over the course of 6 days and on the 6th day he rests. The flag pays tribute to the existing design by reusing the shades of gold and blue. And the placement of the honeycomb at the centre of a blue field resembles the construction of the flag of Utah and many other state flags that have used their seals and arms, while avoiding repetition. |
