Description |
Known as "The Beehive State", The Great Seal of Utah and the U.S. Territory of Deseret before it since 1850 features its "coat of arms" as a rope-style beehive resting on a wooden platform in a meadow of Sego lily (or early on, Hollyhock) flowers on the central shield, proper, meaning displayed in natural color, as featured on staircases in our state capitol building. This coat of arms is the true flag of Utah, with anything displayed outside the shield be part of the larger "achievement of arms". This simplified design features blue and white stripes for the sky above green for the meadow, and the beehive formed using the three arcs of an easily drawn equilateral triangle. The platform also uses 2 equilateral triangles joined on one side for its construction. RB |
