Blue is the Great Salt Lake to the north, the red for the red rocks and desert of the south, the grey for the salt flats to the west. This shows the diversity of Utah's geography. The vertical and horizontal divisions show the multitude of mountains that run through the state, too. The honeycomb has many meanings. Deseret is a word from the Book of Mormon meaning "honey bee", so the honeycomb still shows the state's connection with the LDS Church. That icon is also calling back to the beehive which is a symbol for industry and hard work--an attitude still relevant today. The placement of it is also significant. It sits at the intersection of the colors, showing that we are the "crossroads of the West". Utah is still a modern center of travel, recreation, and commerce with five major interstates and a large, international airport.
