"My design with the word Utah and the year 1896 reflect the colors of the flag of the United States of America. The colors represent white for purity, red for valor, and blue for loyalty. The flag identifies the state by name with the year of statehood shown beneath it. The blue triangle on the left edge symbolizes Utah departing the 29 states that existed in 1847 by not blending in with the red of the flag. However, upon becoming a state in 1896, it blends in with the colors of the flag of the United States, since we are united." |
