The compass at the center of this design symbolizes Utahn's sense of adventure - to most residents, Utah is not a "Beehive State" but an "Adventure State", as many Utahns are outdoor-oriented in their free time...and even visitors flock to the state primarily for its scenic beauty and open public lands. The sun represents Utah's abundant sunshine, and the gold color represents the freedom-loving spirit of its residents. The white stripe represents Utah's legendary beauty in winter, as well as its underlying Christian culture. The green stripe represents the outdoors - primarily outdoor sports, but also the growing eco-friendly culture of the state. The overall design gives off an "outdoor lifestyle" vibe that connects with residents across the state's various ecosystems and climates - it is neither politically-depennant (as red and/or blue flags often are) nor is it explicitly religious in nature, which allows for the diverse communities across the state to connect with it on a deeper level. At our core, we are adventurous and outdoorsy people - it is only fitting we should have a flag that embodies this.
