Description |
I redesigned the flag about a year ago, in my research of flag designs it was the simple and symbolic ones that spoke to me the most. I decided to keep the original blue background as homage to the original flag. Blue also represents open spaces, which Utah has a lot of beautiful open spaces, freedom, inspiration, and sensitive. I think this incorporates the special meaning of the modern update of the flag, we are inclusive of everyone no matter their background and we inspire with our beautiful open spaces and kind culture. I included the delicate arch as it has been a staple of Utah for many years and what I love about it is when you visit the arch you see many tourists from all over the globe as well as locals and you have the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people who have a shared interest in the beauty of nature. It is a gathering point in Utah that I think is really special. Within the arch is our wonderful flower that symbolizes peace. As you look further into the flag towards the middle the symbolism becomes more meaningful. Our delicate yet persevering state flower was a safe haven for the early Mormon settlers when they were starving the natives taught them to eat the bulbs of the sego lily to avoid starvation. I love the symbolism of the trading of information between cultures as well as the representation of peace and a saving miracle. That is what Utah can and should be for all people. That is my simple design with deep meaning embedded. |
