Description |
Intermountain Healthcare is piloting and evaluating an application that uses natural language processing software and artificial intelligence to eliminate the cost of medical scribes and make documentation more efficient. The findings from this pilot study will be used to determine if a larger study should be implemented. The key performance indicators that will be reviewed concern improvement of provider burnout and decrease in after-hours documentation. This cautious approach is dictated by the cost of the application, its unknown return on investment, the need for change management resources, and the development of an untested interface. To implement the new application, an interface must be developed between the EHRs, appointment scheduling application, and the new mobile application [...] The healthcare system's goal is to evaluate a new technology for the reduction of provider burnout, cost and improve the accuracy of documentation and the patient experience. A pilot implementation of this software is underway to understand its feasibility, usefulness, and costs. In the context of this larger project, the specific objectives that are addressed in this paper are the following: a) To develop and implement the mapping for the message shared between the EHR and the new application, allowing users to use their iPhones to select a patient visit and dictate the encounter note. b) Evaluate the required training and education on the use of the application. |
