Description
Study of the impact of eliminating nighttime vitals on adult medical/surgical floors on patients' stay, sleep quality, and healing times. Q4 vitals utilized throughout medical and surgical floors result in 2-5 wake-ups per night. Patients classified as being at low risk for clinical deterioration account for 43% of all nighttime disturbances. Sleep deprivation causes increased cortisol production, delayed wound healing, impaired cognition, and increased risk for chronic disease. Reducing nighttime disruptions has been shown to reduce 30- and 90- day readmissions rates, improve patient-reported mental health, and improved resource allocation.
