Description In an effort to ultimately develop a procedure to remove emboli in central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO), we sought to determine the frequency of ophthalmoscopically visible emboli. Although the percentage is known for branch retinal artery occlusion (62% in one large recent study), the incidence of visible emboli in CRAO is not well documented in the literature.
