Abstract |
More and more bituminous coal is being cleaned every year, bot h deep and strip mined bituminous coal. At this time in the United States approximately 60.7% deep mine and 18.7% strip mine or 33.8% of all bituminous coal is cleaned in a preparation plant. A definition of coal preparation is presented. The physical effects of coal preparation are described, such as, size consist, moisture, BTU/D content, percent ash content and sulfur content. The effect on combustion is described for BTU/D, percent sulfur content, volatile content, and ash analysis. Examples are shown of before and after coal and ash analysis for specific central Pennsylvania coals. Detailed stearn generator affects are described for specific testing of coal on utility and industrial boilers. |
