Description Letters from Allen H. Lundgren in Germany and Belgium to wife Ruth in Salt Lake City during December of 1944, while serving in the U.S. Army's Counter Intelligence Corps during World War II. A letter dated Dec. 4 has two accounts of taking prisoners of war (and is postmarked May 12, 1945, showing the disruption to postal service in the final months of the war in Europe). Dec. 7 letter describes night during a blackout and the condition of cities after bombing. A letter of Dec. 15 includes thoughts on planning for their future after the war, including his career plans. With the Dec. 18 letter are pages from a German magazine on home furnishing. Dec 20 letter begins at image 73-74 and continues at image 86. Letters of Dec. 23 and 31 hint at the changes resulting from the German counter-offensive and the "Battle of the Bulge." Letters of Dec. 24 and 25 describe Allen's experience of Christmas in Belgium. The Dec. 30 letter recounts his year since departing U.S. shores.
