Description This paper describes a software system for the implementation of two-dimensional symmetric convolution. This system has the advantage over conventional convolution techniques in that it eliminates unwanted artifacts known as "edge effects." The system is designed using the Discrete Cosine Transform and the Discrete Sine Transform. These transform pairs are also discussed. Using these transforms. images are broken into their symmetric parts. These parts are then convolved symmetrically. and these symmetric convolutions are summed to result in a final convolved image devoid of unwanted "edge effects."
