Show the other bands of Utes of this reservation. It is entirely possible that this matter was specifically referred to in the latest.treaty with these In-, dians;. which was made on the occasion of their reservation ' except'; the .-Grazing, Reserve ..being,.thrown open to settlement '' byothepwhites,3but • i£3it3.was, I am-not informed about; it y-iOOyfOO "7ft ',-""('--3' •'''•• "YY,"3,-3,-, t'tpft/'flt-y ." for-.the-later ytreaties are-not on-file' at this agency. I would be glad to be furnished an.up to date copy of the. laws and treaties relating to Indians, particularly of this reservation, so that more intelligent opinions might be-given on such questions as they may arise. The only thing we have is-Kappler*s Laws and Treaties, Second Edition, volumes one and two, also the U.S.Statutes, 1378. The County Attorney of Uintah county had a conversation -with me on the telephone regarding the right of Indians to hunt or fish on their reserve without procuring license but neither he nor I knew for sure whether or not the Indians have such a right. During the fishing deason, the mountain streams of this.'-reservation are absolutely over-run with campers, regardless of whether they flow through the National Forest above, the Indian Grazing'Reserve, or the settlers' and allotted lands.below. An early opinion will be appreciated. . ' • ' . • * • . '••)•*; - Respectfully, Supervisor in Charge, )• |
