The test facility, shown in Figures 4 and 5, consists of two modules. They include a top chamber, a fuel air fired preheater, to preheat approximately 94.4 EE-3 cu.m./s (200 Scfrn) combustion air at 13.8 kPa (2 psi) to 73Z·C (1350·F). The second test chamber, located at the floor level, has an inside diameter of 0.76 meters (30") with a total length of 5.48 meters (18 ft) and consists of three zones. The first zone is 1.52 meters (5 ft) long and serves as the primary combustion chamber for the burner. The second zone is used to cool combustion products and includes tubes through which cold air is passed for indirect cooling of combustion products from the first section. The two zones are , \ separated by radiation shields to avoid heat losses from the \\ primary combustion chamber. The third zone is used for reburning of cooled combustibles by using jets of air at ambient temperature • . Flue gases from this section are discharged into the atmosphere through a stack. A specially designed natural gas burner for preheated air 1s fired in the primary combustion chamber described above • . Preheated air from the top preheater is used in the burner for sub-stoichiometric combustion of natural gas. The burner, which was designed by Indugas is operated with a natural gas input of 94.4 EE-3 (1000 Scfh) maximum, and combustion air of varying volume flows depending on the air-fuel ratio. Combustion air temperature can be varied from 38·C to 816·C (100·F to 1500·F). FIGURE 4.
