I have received and carefully considered Office , letter dated February 3, 1912, relative to funds needed for^ industrial enterprises by the Ute Indians. The information given in this letter is quite full and complete, and the legislation suggested is very satisfactory, so far as I am now able to determine. The last paragraph of this letter enjoins upon me to urge and persuade the Indians to engage in farming every acre possible with the materials at their disposal. Replying thereto I will say that these Indians seem now intent on doing more work the coming season than they have ever done before, and I hear frequent expression that is almost expressive of impatience on their part to get to work. I have submitted and am yet submitting various requests for the purpose of providing them with necessary implements, seed, etc., and such teams as funds now available will provide for. If these much needed aids can be provided there is little doubt but that the Indians will show forth |
