Description |
A 34-year-old Caucasian woman presented on October 28, 1983 with a 1 year history of left ptosis, miosis, and questionably decreased sweating on the face. This was followed 3-4 months later by numbness of the left jaw, lower teeth, and tongue. With the onset of new symptoms, a neurologic work-up was condudcted. EEG, BAER, and VEP were reported as normal. ACT scan of the orbits and brain were read as normal. CSF opening pressure was 128, protein 17 mg%, glucose 60 mg %, 4 lymphocytes. Studies for myelin basic protein and oligoclonal bands were negative. A diagnosis of hysterical conversion reaction was made and psychotherapy instituted. Three weeks prior to her presentation the patient developed horizontal diplopia. |
