Scan of black scrapbook owned by Leo B. Leonard, containing newspaper clipping, event programs, and photographs. Each page is scanned as a whole, some followed by scans of individual items to show detail or reverse of item. Some of the pieces deal with the some of the musical groups of which Leonard was a member, including the San Pedro American Legion Band, the Third Coast Artillery band at Fort MacArthur, San Pedro; the 38th Infantry band at Fort Douglas; and the Night Hawks Orchestra dance band. There are numerous photos of Leonard and his friends and relatives, only some of which have identifying captions. |

The Leo Bradford Leonard Photograph Collection follows his life as a civilian band member in the 1930s to joining the army band of the 88th Division of the 32nd Infantry and consequently being assigned as a military policeman in Germany and Europe around the time of World War II and immediately following. The main bulk of photographs are postcards and tourist images purchased by Leonard depicting towns and cities throughout Europe. The collection also contains personal photographs of Leonard and his second wife Elisabeth Josefine Gangl and her family in Europe as well as formal portraits. Also included is an album owned by Elisabeth before World War II showing friends and acquaintances in Germany.of his good friends, the writer Bernard DeVoto, as well as various photographs from trips he took that include Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, Italy, and Asia. |
