Description History: A 48-year-old woman with a painless proptosis of the left eye without functional deficits. Anatomy: Orbit; Calvarium. Disease Diagnosis: Meningioma. Neuroimaging: An axial CT scan showing the thickening of the bone of the posterior lateral left orbit and extending back into the temporal bone. There is a soft tissue mass in the intracranial space adjacent to the thickened bone. This is a sphenoid wing meningioma with soft and a bony component. A coronal view of the very thickened lateral superior wall of the left orbit demonstrating the intraosseous component of this sphenoid wing meningioma. The MRI with contrast. In this axial view the thickened bone is dark and the soft tissue component is light and intraorbitally and intracranially adjacent to the thickened bone. The coronal view of the soft tissue component of this lesion in the superior posterior left orbit with an extensive intracranial component. An axial view of the anterior skull and orbits demonstrating the extensive removal of the bony area in the lateral left orbit and the anterior temporal area. A coronal view of bone windows with the extensive removal of the lateral superior orbital wall containing the meningioma extending out to the anterior temporal lobe. Presenting Symptom: Painless proptosis of the left eye without functional deficits. Treatment: Anterior temporal cranial orbitotomy.
