Since Office letter of January 14, 1907, wa3 written, the Absentee Utes have been'assigned to a portion of the Cheyenne River Agency, South Dakota, under the charge of Special Indian Agent Down3 AAA excepting those who returned to their reservation in Utah with Inspector McLaughlin. In order, therefore, that the reimbursement can be made by these Utes for clothing drawn by them while prisoners of war at Fort Meade it will be necessary for you to submit supplemental annuity roll to the one paid by you during the first quarter, 1908 entering thereon the names of those Utes whose shares of X .x > annuity were withheld by you under instructions from this Office ''7 77 and turned back into, the Treasury. The purpose of this supplemental 7 roll is to send it to Special Agent Downs to pay, he to deduct such amounts as each Indian owes for the clothing given to him, and if any balance is found due the Indian to pay- him. On"this roll you win not, of course, include those who returned to their reservation as they will have to be settled with through you. With about four exceptions the Utea at Cheyenne River will all have a balance due them and they *iil doubtless need it soon as the X ' winter is upon them. Another payment i3 also due all the Utes, ,? a, anti 1* is desired that no delay be occasioned to those in South 77 Dakota. Please give this matter of the supplemental roll your ;.7vi'7 iinmediate attention. Leave the heading on the first page blank. a Very respectfully, Aa (Signed) P.E. Leupp, Commissioner. |
