Connection/Disconnection

Update Item Information
Title Connection/Disconnection
Creator Tara Carpenter
Description My work explores the way people form connections, both inside their brains, and with other people. Neurologist Joseph LeDoux says, "The particular patterns of synaptic connections in an individual's brain, and the information encoded by these connections are the keys to who that person is" (3). In other words, we are the way we connect. And in a lot of ways, we connect (or don't) because of the way we develop socially and biologically. The two artworks that form my thesis show address the idea of connection in different ways. One work is a large-scale wall installation titled "Connection/Disconnection" that focuses on connections made within the brain. The other work, titled "Growth" addresses the concept of connections as relationships in several sections of landscapes/mindscapes with interacting forms.
